lighting natural gas fireplace

When I try to light the pilot on my majestic fireplace, I hear a hissing but the actual pilot will not light?
Hello Everyone,
I’m trying to light my pilot in my new home. It’s been two years since the last use, when I attempt to light the pilot, I turn the “On/Off/Pilot” knob to pilot, and when I push it in I can hear a hissing, but it won’t light via the spark that I see or when I tried with a light. It came to me that possibly their was alot of air in the system and I might need to bleed it out. I’m not sure the model number but I think it’s a Majestic 360DDS2 and it’s connected to the gas companys’ natural gas line. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.
There was to much air in the system, so I had to hold down the pilot, bleed the air for like 1 minute, and then turn it off for the gas to dissipate. After this, it lighted perfectly, thanks for the help!
Well be very carefull, that is the sound of gas coming out of the pilot. If you have had it on a while and when pressing the button that sparks to light it doesnt light it, TURN IT OFF! Wait a while and make sure the room is well ventolated. You can light it manually with a match or a lighter. Once the room is clear and you do NOT smell the foul oder of gas. Turn the gas on and then put the match or lighter to the pilot to light it. Good luck!Be very carefull! Im not sure of your specific model but that is how I have always done it.
